"Free" means something different at every one of these tools, and finding out mid-application that you've hit a limit is a bad time to discover it. Here's what each free tier actually includes, verified directly from each vendor's own pricing page.

The pattern to watch for
Free tiers tend to cap one of three things: how many documents you can create, how many times you can download them, or which file format you're allowed to export. Resume.io's free plan technically lets you build unlimited drafts of one resume, but you can't get a usable PDF out of it without paying — a very different limitation than JobOwl's, which caps the number of tailored resumes but doesn't restrict the export format.
When paying actually makes sense
If you're applying to a handful of roles, a free tier is often genuinely enough to get through your search. If you're doing high-volume applications — tailoring a resume for every posting — you'll likely hit a free-tier limit within the first week or two, and it's worth comparing the paid tiers directly rather than assuming they're interchangeable: Rezi's $149 one-time Lifetime plan behaves very differently from JobOwl's or Resume.io's recurring monthly charges.
